Why are we attracted to sparkly or shiny things?

Diamonds are a girls best friend and All that glitters are sayings we have all heard. But why are we (humans not women) attracted to diamonds and other objects and elements that are shiny, such as gold and silver. Personally the sparkle or glittery effect of an object and the way it makes me feel is far more important than the cost or value.

Some suggest the attraction can be dated back to Stone Age or Roman days with the glistening of certain rocks and minerals that could be used to make the first tools and weapons. Others have aligned the sparkle affinity to the reflection of water or even fire sparks in ancient times as both were instrumental in staying alive.

Whatever it was that started this revolution or cognitive response has certainly not dimmed with time. Bling, Sparkle, Glittery and Shiny all look good to me. Some might say gold and jewels has been a status symbol in days gone by and was linked to wealth and even royalty. Luckily the majority of us can now afford a little bling or sparkle with quality cheaper alternatives.

Add a subtle piece of sparkle or shower yourself in bling, whatever your sparkle choice is, whatever the reason, revel in it and enjoy the reflection when it catches in the light and your reflection in it :-)
